Solar Screens
Solar Screens are a special window screen mesh that is specially designed for Sun Control. It is the most effective way to Control the Sun’s Heat and Glare by stopping it before it enters your window
Solar Shades can reduce solar heat gain, reduce glare, provide a degree of daytime privacy and filter natural light to illuminate the interior. However, no fabric can accomplish all of the above. You need to decide which feature is the most important or find a comfortable balance between one or more of the above. To help you decide, you need to pick your solar screen based on the openness factor and color, as explained below.
-
Openness Factor
The Openness Factor represents the amount of open and/or closed space in the material or more appropriately, the density of the weave. A fabric with a low Openness Factor (OF) reflects more infrared heat, provides greater daytime privacy and offers the greatest glare reduction.
A fabric with a high OF provides for a better view out but doesn't reflect as much infrared heat, reduces daytime privacy and allows more natural light to filter through the fabric to illuminate the interior. -
Colors
We offer a variety of colors for our solar screens. Dark colors offer the best glare reduction and the best view out. However, dark colors can reduce daytime privacy, and rather than repel infrared heat dark fabric absorbs it - some of which will penetrate the fabric to warm the interior. Also, dark fabric with a low openness factor will cause a room darkening effect and therefore a reliance on artificial lighting. Light colors offer more daytime privacy and reflect more solar heat. Depending on the fabric color, natural light will filter through the fabric to illuminate the interior in varying degrees. -
Mounting
We have the options of either mounting the window treatment inside the window recess or outside on the wall or molding. We usually recommend an inside mount whenever possible because it provides a cleaner look. However, an outside mount can make a window appear larger or hide an unattractive window.
